We are excited to offer innovation in shape resist dyeing tools! Itajime Shibori is a Japanese resist technique which traditionally utilizes two pieces of wood with string or clamps to create a negative shape pattern on cloth dyed with indigo. Handcrafting wood shapes takes considerable skill and time. When making our own hand cut wooden shapes, we experienced warping, cracking and breakage within a year of consistent use. Certain woods tend to float and bob up to the surface which is not desirable and and some woods can even leave tannin stained marks on fiber. Solid plastics, resins, and other shape materials are slippery & difficult to align correctly. We are excited to offer an efficient, sustainable solution to resist shape challenges with our original 3D printed designs.

What’s different?

In addition to being waterproof, our original 3D printed design features 100% recycled PETG filament and a custom click-in feature. This design allows the clamp and shape to become one tool, but also allows you to easily switch out shapes for new designs. This click-in feature gives you ease and control over the positioning of your fiber-it’s like gaining an extra hand! Our shapes are identical and because the click-in feature ensures proper alignment, you receive a crisp, consistent resist every time. These shapes are intended for low heat/ no heat dyeing and are ideal for indigo vatting but can be utilized in other low heat/passive dye baths ( Do not exceed temps of 110F, Recycled Plastic will melt at higher temps.)

  Please note filament color varies based on what is available from manufacturer, which means shapes may be white, black, blue, or shades other than what is pictured. This is purely aesthetic and color difference does not affect performance.

*The Aluminum C-clamps are manufactured by a 3rd party. They contain metal screws that will, with repeated exposure to water/dye liquids, incur rust build-up(iron oxide). This is an unavoidable side effect of using a traditional woodworking tool, in an untraditional way-for dyeing. In indigo vatting, rust/iron is not problematic and is even used as a common reducing agent. I typically do not have any negative side affects in using metal clamps of various kinds, as I use them exclusively in my Indigo vat practice. If you should chose to use your resist shapes with dyes other than indigo, note that the rust on the C-clamp may be a factor and potentially could cause “saddening” of your dye baths as iron is also used as a modifier for dyes to darken or shift colors.

**Our limited warrantee covers resist shapes only. Our warrantee does not cover shapes melted in liquids above 110F- please see temp recommendation/proper use description above. We do not manufacture the C-Clamps and can not guarantee their lifetime performance.
