Workshop Details

Who is this class for? This class is for all growers from a few potted plants to backyard plots to large scale farmers of Persicaria tinctoria (Japanese Indigo). The recording is designed for you to view, then pause the recording to gather materials or tools, then follow along.  Of course, you may view and work on the different methods in the way that is most comfortable for you and the video allows for unlimited viewing until the expiration date.

Feel free to relax and view class as lecture style, but if you’d like to learn along with the video, you’ll need access to fresh plants. Britt recommends 5-10 live Persicaria tinctoria indigo plants for the best experience.

What will we create? We’ll dive into seafoam blender blues, turquoise salt mash, and Tataki-zome leaf prints. Three hands-on applications for the freshest alive blue hues…and a bonus! indirubin-pickled Indigo (from left over salt mash). Britt shows how to use fresh soymilk to treat and bond the indigo to cellulose (cotton and linen) fibers. We’ll also try out Vibrant Valley Blue Indigo Paste as a pigment to use for saturated painting and printing.  In addition, Britt shows how to take the leftover indigo stems to grow new plants as well as seed saving tips for next year’s crop.

What do I get with registration?  You will be able to download Britt’s Fresh Indigo Menu as well as a Resources PDF that has the video link details. The video is approximately 2 hours in duration.
